The owner, Karen, began operating the restaurant in 1990 when it was known as Little Emperor. After running one of the most successful Asian restaurants in Riverside CA, Karen decided to elevate Little Emperor to have an upscale dining experience. In 2007, the restaurant was renovated with a beautiful interior to become one of the most comfortable places to eat in Riverside, and the name was changed to Monark Asian Bistro.

Monark Asian Bistro expanded its offerings to include special dishes inspired by other regions of Asia that cannot be found anywhere else. It has also continued to serve the same Chinese food in Riverside and Thai food loved by many.
